Rowan Cottage

Rowan Cottage is fully detached, and lies
on the sea shore in the hamlet of Strollamus, 11 miles
from the Skye Bridge and 3½ miles north west of Broadford.
The cottage is easy to
find, slightly set back from A87, immediately adjacent to The Skye Boat Centre. Portree, the "capital" of Skye, is a further 22
miles to the north.
It was probably built as a cotter's cottage. A
cotter was the poorest of agricultural workers, who had no land of his own.
The original stone built cottage has been
sensitively
extended so as to retain its original character. Now, in addition to exposed
stone walls and v-groove panelling, there is full double glazing and
gas fired central heating by radiators in every room.

A burn runs to the side of the cottage, which can be something of a torrent after heavy rain! |
The cottage has a lawned garden with gated access directly onto the sea shore. The garden is fully fenced and safe for children. |

The front door is to the side of the cottage. In the background is the Island of Scalpay. |

The cozy lounge/diner was once the entire cottage! A log-burning stove stands in the original stone fireplace. |
From the lounge/diner a staircase leads to a steeply coombed loft room which is not available to guests. |

The fully fitted modern kitchen features full size gas cooker, two-door fridge freezer, microwave, auto washing machine, and tumble dryer |

Bedroom one has a double bed, pine furniture, and probably one of the most peaceful views on the planet. |
Bedroom two is a twin. A guest has reported sitting in this room watching otters playing on the beach... |
The bathroom is part pine-panelled. There is a modern white 3-piece suite with electric over-bath shower. |
